Helen Keller International (HKI), an International NGO, has been working in Bangladesh since 1978. HKI implements different projects in partnership with national and international NGOs, development partners, academic and research institutions, and private sectors. HKI takes a gender-sensitive approach to improving nutrition, food security and eye health. Current program areas include Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Nilphamari, Sylhet, Chittagong and the CHT.
HKI is seeking to recruit the following positions based in Dhaka (Who has applied earlier is requested not to apply).
Job Title : Manager - Communications
Job Location : Dhaka with at least 10% field visit
Reporting to : Country Director
Term length : This is a regular full time position
Scope of Responsibilities:
To support the Country Office and APRO in communications and support HKI projects with strategic communications. One salient part of the communications manager will be to develop and roll out comprehensive communications strategies in support of HKI projects.
The manager - communications will be responsible for the development of HKI communications strategy and directly manage the implementation of the strategy, ensuring the integration of a broad range of public relations activities and materials relative to the strategic direction and positioning of HKI projects, as well as assist in the development of internal communication protocols to ensure smooth and open communication within different projects and throughout the partners. The manager - communications will guide all communications activities, publications, reports, website and social media to consistently articulate HKI’s programmatic objectives and results and ensure compliance with HKI marking and branding policies and will be responsible for the overall quality control and final production of HKI’s varied and integrated communications products and services, including newsletters, success stories, website, Facebook page, and Twitter account. At times, the communications manager may serve as the spokesperson for HKI in which s/he may attend meetings and/or conduct presentations. As such, s/he is expected to build relationships with key stakeholders, including different donors, partner organizations and GoB.
Job Responsibilities:
Specific Responsbilities:
  • To oversee branding and visibility of country office and project locations, events, and other materials for internal and external communications, for the country office and APRO, as needed.
  • To ensure that HKI project activities, primarily communications activities, are implemented with the maximum efficiency and professionalism to bring about a positive change in the lives of the beneficiaries.
Detailed Activities/Responsibilities:
  • Support the country office, APRO and HKI projects with development of communications materials.
  • Oversee branding and communications at events, in publications, papers, presentations, and other appearances and materials.
  • Support APRO in development of communications materials, events as needed.
  • Support the design and implementation of formative research to understand attitudes, practices, and knowledge related to appropriate project-specific activities. 
  • In consultation with other staff and partners, design comprehensive communication strategies that will address the specific communication objectives identified in the formative research.
  • Develop, field-test, and finalize job aids and training materials for relevant stakeholders in various projects.
  • Develop, field-test, finalize, and provide ongoing support to roll out and monitor effective personal counseling plans, community mobilization events, advertising campaigns, and other pertinent and related materials, strategies and plans for various projects, as needed.
  • Assist with development and assessment of operations and impact pathway research to assess effectiveness of communications strategies, materials development and modify as needed.
  • Fully develop communication materials and counseling training curriculum for HKI and facilitate, as needed.
Education
  • An advanced degree in advertising, communications, journalism, graphic design or related field.
Other Requirement
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in communications, preferably ten years.
  • Must have fluency in English at a State Department Level 4.
  • A very high standard of communication skills; Interpersonal, intercultural, and overall social skills.
  • Experience working with communities, households and/or masses in relation to communications. It can be within advertising, journalism, Government work, or in the development and cooperation field.
  • A very good knowledge of the social and cultural norms of Bangladesh is required.
  • Experience leading or assisting with formative research to develop or adapt communication strategies and/or materials.
  • Creativity drawing on evidence based information to develop appropriate communication materials.
  • Ability to transform complex or general scientific ideas/facts into simple and specific messages.
  • Experience in writing strategies for long-term projects, programs or large scale sales.
