SECTION 1: SPECIFICATIONS
Program Background
The Bengal Tiger Conservation Activity (Bagh) is a
four-year project funded by USAID that started in January 2014. The
overall objective of the Bagh Activity is to strengthen the
relationship between the Sundarbans and surrounding communities by
training and encouraging local populations and institutions to lead the
fight to protect the Bengal tiger and its magnificent forest mangrove
ecosystem. Bagh will ensure more than the survival of Sundarbans
tigers. Saving tigers will save the Sundarbans from all threats towards
animals, vegetation and people - this is the focal approach of the
Bagh Activity.
WildTeam – a Bangladeshi organization
that has been working for biodiversity conservation in Bangladesh since
2003 – is the lead implementing partner of the Bagh Activity, for
which the Smithsonian Institution and the Bangladesh Centre for
Advanced Studies (BCAS) provide ongoing technical support.
