  • In order to strengthen the SH/SS network and to create a stronger platform for contributing to Universal Health Coverage in Bangladesh, the Surjer Hashi/Smiling Sun Healthcare Company is being established and registered in Bangladesh as a company limited by guarantee (a not-for-profit company). NHSDP, under guidance from USAID, is providing technical and managerial support to establish and operationalize the Company as a consolidated independent platform to own and operate the Surjer Hashi brand and network.
  • Pathfinder International is seeking to recruit a Managing Director for the newly established Surjer Hashi/Smiling Sun Healthcare Company.
  • Position Purpose:
  • The Managing Director is the highest-ranking executive in the Company, with primary responsibilities for developing corporate strategy with the Board, managing the overall operations and resources of the Company, making major corporate decisions, and acting as the main point of communication between the Board of Directors and management/corporate operations.
Job Description / Responsibility
  • Work closely with the Board, and particularly the Chairperson of the Board, to develop Company strategy and ensure achievement of project goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with NHSDP senior management to design and implement a start-up plan for the Company, along with a transition plan to the next USAID-funded project cycle and partners
  • Oversee and ensure effective implementation of all core management functions of the Company, including finance, HR, MIS, quality assurance, business development and external stakeholder liaison including government and national/international entities
  • Ensure development and implementation of systematic quality management processes and procedures throughout the Smiling Sun network
  • Ensure regular and ongoing identification of healthcare service delivery strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats throughout the Surjer Hashi network, continually ensuring program planning and implementation that solves problems, focuses on priorities and achieves mandated results
  • Facilitate effective technical support from NHSDP to the Surjer Hashi network, ensuring quality of services based on agreed standards
  • Coordinate closely with the NHSDP M&E team to ensure effective monitoring of service delivery performance, both in terms of access and quality
  • Use available monitoring data and other information to monitor, assess and improve access to quality services
  • Facilitate the technical team and SH clinics to use data and other available information to continually improve access to and quality of services
  • Coordinate with relevant partner organizations (especially those funded by USAID and DFID) as well as with the GOB, to ensure institutionalized quality assurance
  • Facilitate regular and smooth liaison between the Company, the SH network, GOB, NHSDP and USAID/DFID, in close collaboration with NHSDP senior management

    Masters' degree in Public Health and/or Management
Job Requirements
  • Proven success in managing diverse teams to achieve results for improved health service delivery and health outcomes
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing and managing budgets, profit/loss statements and balance sheets
  • Proven success in setting and achieving high standards of work and consistently meeting project goals
  • Strong management and leadership skills, with capacity to think and act strategically
  • Ability to work well with colleagues from diverse backgrounds; to communicate effectively; and to work independently as well as in a team
  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English as well as Bangla
  • Strong capacity to use MS Outlook and various MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Health care qualification
  • Work experience with USAID-funded health program(s), especially programs that included interventions to improve access to quality services
  • Senior level corporate management experience
  • Experience managing a network of health facilities in Bangladesh
  • Ability to be based in Dhaka and travel throughout Bangladesh on a regular basis
